Hyderabad police step up security for Milad procession

Hyderabad police have implemented enhanced security protocols for the upcoming Milad-un-Nabi procession scheduled for August 26. The measures include the use of drones and CCTV cameras to monitor the main route. Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar announced these steps during a meeting on Saturday at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) in Banjara Hills.

Representatives from the Markaz-e-Milad Juloos Committee attended the coordination meeting alongside senior police officials. The Commissioner urged the organizers to ensure the procession concludes within the stipulated timeframe and begins at the scheduled time. The primary focus remains on maintaining peace and order during the event.

Regulations regarding noise and vehicle behavior were a significant part of the discussions. The Commissioner stated that DJs and sound systems causing excessive noise pollution will not be permitted. This decision aligns with Supreme Court and government regulations. He also emphasized strict enforcement against reckless driving. Drivers under the age of 18, triple-riding on motorcycles, and individuals using modified silencers will face strict penalties.

Bike rallies are prohibited before the scheduled date. The police want to prevent any disruptions or unsanctioned events that could precede the main procession. With the monsoon season continuing, the Commissioner asked organizers to take necessary precautions. Decorations and flags must not come into contact with power lines to prevent electrical hazards.

Coordination is also required at food distribution points. Volunteers are asked to work with the police to prevent traffic congestion in these areas. During a video conference earlier, the Commissioner directed field-level personnel to collaborate to ensure the celebrations pass off peacefully. Security is being strengthened in sensitive areas, and surveillance over the procession will be maintained through drones and CCTV cameras.

The police will maintain a close watch on social media for provocative or hateful content. Known troublemakers are also on the police radar. To facilitate communication, stickers are being issued in advance for vehicles participating in the procession. A dedicated coordination WhatsApp group and a helpline have been established for emergency communication.

Balancing Security and Celebration

The deployment of drones and CCTV cameras offers a technical solution to crowd control, yet the simultaneous monitoring of social media creates a complex environment where the line between safety and intrusion becomes blurred. For a procession focused on community celebration, the presence of constant surveillance—both physical and digital—can alter the atmosphere of the event itself. The focus now shifts to how these technologies will be applied in real-world scenarios during the procession.

Senior officers involved in the planning include Additional CP (Law and Order, South Range) Tafseer Iqbal, Joint CP (Traffic) Joel Davis, DCP (Traffic-3) Rahul Hegde, DCP (Charminar) Khare Kiran Prabhakar, DCP (Rajendranagar) Srinivas, DCP (Shamshabad) Rajesh, and DCP (Golconda) Raghavender Reddy. These officials, along with the committee representatives, are working to ensure the event adheres to all safety regulations.
