AIG Names Turab Hussain Chief Risk Officer

AIG has named Turab Hussain chief risk officer, effective 12 October, succeeding Christopher Schaper, who will retire at year-end. Hussain will join the insurer’s executive leadership team and report directly to president and CEO Eric Andersen, continuing to be based in New York, where he will oversee the company’s risk management strategies. This appointment reflects a strategic move to strengthen leadership continuity during a period of significant organizational change.
Hussain joined AIG in 2021 as chief risk officer for general insurance. His prior roles included chief risk and actuarial officer at PartnerRe and chief insurance risk officer at The Hartford. Since 2023, he has served as AIG’s global chief actuary, bringing extensive expertise to the chief risk officer position. His dual experience in risk and actuarial functions positions him to enhance AIG’s risk assessment capabilities.
Graham Fulcher, currently AIG’s chief actuary for international commercial insurance, has been named global chief actuary to succeed Hussain in that role. Fulcher will be based in London and will report directly to Hussain, ensuring smooth transition of actuarial responsibilities across the company’s global operations. This restructuring shows the importance of maintaining actuarial leadership within the organization.
Christopher Schaper, who joined AIG in 2019 as CEO of AIG Re, later served as global chief underwriting officer before becoming chief risk officer in January 2025. His retirement concludes a tenure marked by significant leadership evolution at the company. Schaper’s departure follows a broader series of executive transitions initiated after CEO Eric Andersen assumed the role on 1 June, following Peter Zaffino’s exit.
Last month, AIG announced the appointment of Sierra Signorelli, a former Zurich Insurance executive, as CEO of the Americas and global personal insurance, effective 1 January 2027. Signorelli, who previously spent 17 years at AIG before joining Zurich, brings a unique blend of internal experience and external industry knowledge to the role. This appointment marks a key development in AIG’s strategy to expand its personal insurance footprint in North America.
